After successful competition, sex workers at Budhwar Peth want to start an L-club
Life is not a laughing matter for the sex workers in the narrow bylanes of Budhwar Peth. But if the NGO Saheli and the sex workers have their way, laughter will soon come back into their lives.
The NGO had organised a laughter competition for the sex workers and over 200 women participated.
Now, Saheli is in talks with other NGOs and organisations to start a regular laughter club in the area. "Laughing could bring some positive energy back in to their lives. It can be used as therapy," said Tejaswi Sevekari, director, Saheli.
And psychiatrists have applauded the idea. Said Dr Swapnil Deshmukh, "Laughing can bring about changes in their emotional level. Why only laughing, even taking them out on a picnic or movie can bring some positive changes in their life."
