Two class XII students, who claim to be lesbians and have reportedly got married recently against the will of their parents, have approached the Delhi Police seeking protection. Both want to appear in their pre-board exams under police protection.

DCP (North West), Meenu Chaudhary said that police have provided them with protection and they have already appeared for their English exam. "They are students of a government school in Jehangirpuri area. They had claimed that they had got married and produced a notary paper before us. However, they don't have any legal document to prove their marriage. But as they are adults, we have to provide them with protection," said the DCP.
Family members of both the girls had decided to disown them after coming to know of their marriage. Fearing they would be killed, the girls ran away from home.
Meanwhile, a police official said that one of the families had decided to accept the girls' decision while the other family was still reluctant. "Both the girls now want to solemnise their marriage according to Hindu customs. But before that they want to finish their board exams," said the police official. The girls have been living separately in a rented accommodation in same area.
"They used to study together and have been close friends for years. Last year they proposed to each other and decided to live together," said the police source.
