Every nightclub according to him is a chemical reaction waiting to happen with a mix of people, music and other elements of ambience. "So Petri Dish I felt was quite apt for a name," he tells us.

The band is a collaborative line-up that includes artists like Monica Dogra of Shaai'r and Funk, Anushka Manchanda, Suman Sridhar from Sridhar + Thayil and drummer Lindsay D'Mello.
Coming to town for a performance, Ashutosh has big plans ahead. Two years into having co founded the revolutionary music club Blue Frog, the release of this album is hardly a surprise. What is rather surprising is the actual time the idea took to be translated into recorded tracks.

"It was more like an experiment of the night. Different forms of electronic and dance music were brought together. I had been subconsciously thinking about it for a long time but the actual album I wrote over eight days flat," says Ashutosh.
"Six songs were simultaneously recorded in a day," he adds. With a show planned three weeks ahead of this rather speedy beginning, Ashutosh planned producing and performing a brand new album all over this three week period.

Having patronised live music much longer than the existence of Blue Frog, Petri Dish is an unusual deviation that brings together quite a few electronic and synthesized elements.
We are surprised and Ashutosh is quick at clarifying, "There was a time when I couldn't stand electronic music.

The performances at Blue Frog opened my eyes to the genre". "Though I still use old analog synthesizers to produce my music, the way Pink Floyd did," he adds.
The music this time around he admits is more commercial than his previous album produced three years ago.

"The idea is to represent the night life of a city in one place and let it circulate freely. The music by Petri Dish will be available for free downloads online and new tracks will continue to be added," says Ashutosh. "The Petri Dish is a continuous collaborative effort," he adds.

Having rocked Mumbai with their first show, Ashutosh is all set to bring this new venture to the city. Expect all the songs from the album including the title track 'Petri Dish', along with synchronised lighting and beats and a whole bouquet of holographic projections added to the electronic experience.
