After MiD DAY reported about non-functional streetlights in East of Kailash, they were fixed. But now there is no one to switch them off

The newly-installed streetlights made Diwali bright enough for East Kailash residents. However, lights in the three blocks of the area-D, E and F-, which had been living in the dark for the last 20-25 days, are now on, 24x7.

After MiD DAY reported that the residents of the area were facing security issues because of the dark streets, the authorities immediately took an action and streetlights were fixed within two days. Now, however, no one switches off those lights even during the day time.u00a0

"The streetlights have been continuously for the last four days. I think they have taken the decision too seriously. It is a complete wastage of money. Then they will cut off the lights saying the bill has not been paid. This is really annoying," said K K Mittal, general secretary, Resident Welfare Association (RWA), E- block.

MiD DAY had reported on Friday, October 21, that at least 100 streetlights in the area were not been functioning. The RWA had complained regarding this to BSES, as well as MCD. On October 25, the lights were fixed. "Now the lights are working day in day out. This is wastage of public money. This is absolutely bizarre. First there were no lights and now they are working all the time. What kind of ignorance is this on the part of authorities?" rued Vipul Gupta, a resident of F block.
