Gavit was removed from his cabinet position last week
Gavit was discharged from his position after his daughter, Heena Gavit joined BJP last week. She has been made the candidate of Nandurbar constituency reserved for scheduled tribes, against Congress veteran and union minister of state, Manikrao Gavit, who has won the seat record-nine times.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had threatened that the minister may lose his cabinet berth if his daughter joined BJP and the angered party had requested Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to expel him from the Cabinet.
Dr Heena Gavit has been active in social work for the last few years and says BJP leaders can be good candidates to go up against Congress veteran Manikrao Gavit. She is currently doing her post graduation at Grant Medical College, from the JJ Group of hospitals.
