After holding detailed discussions with party chief Raj Thackeray, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena road and infra cell plans to depute two party workers at every toll naka to monitor collection on 24-hour basis from tomorrow
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena road and infrastructure cell for the state is planning a weeklong survey of toll collection at toll nakas across the state from tomorrow. The cell has decided to deploy its workers at various toll plazas on 24-hour duty to check vehicles and note down the amount collected as toll for each vehicle.

A party insider said that after a detailed discussion with party chief Raj Thackeray today, the drive would be kicked off initially for seven days and the party chief is likely to announce details of the drive.
On the job
“We have decided to deploy two party workers at each toll naka to note down the number of vehicles passing through and the amount collected for each vehicle,” the insider said. The party source added that the picture would be clearer after gathering the data.
“It will help us to calculate the annual revenue earned by the state government from arbitrary toll collection,” said the insider. General secretary of the road and infrastructure cell of Western Maharashtra, Sachin Gole said that he had filed an RTI a few months ago and received the state government’s GR as a reply to the query. The GR mentions that from 2014, toll for private owned four-wheelers on the Expressway will be increased to Rs 195 and till the year 2030, commuters will have to pay Rs 320 as toll for the Pune-Mumbai route.
No let-up
“Practically, the toll fee should reduce day by day as there is increase in the number of vehicles commuting on the Express Highway and they have been charging toll tax for several years. It shows how the state government is exploiting the common man by this arbitrary toll collection.” Gole said. u00a0
