As part of a massive rally, the city's student fraternity along with elected BBMP officials came together to create awareness about Malaria.
Over 300 students and members of resident welfare associations gathered at Rajaji Nagar and carried banners and posters and distributed informative pamphlets on the disease. This rally is a part of the multi-city crusade against Malaria, which started in Mumbai and after covering Bangalore, will branch out to New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.
Kapil Dev Pillai, category head, Household Insecticides, Godrej Consumer, who initiated the campaign informed that the campaign is in its third year of running and this is the first time such a rally has been organised in the city.
He said, "The response has been great and Bangaloreans are very open to be educated about such issues. However, generally since people do not take the mosquito very seriously, Malaria has been spreading in all cities. We were trying to drive home the point that even one mosquito is dangerous."
Students from various schools chanted slogans to create awareness about the illness, while also participating in the interactive sessions. "The Rajaji Nagar Parents Associations and Deccan Education Society participated in the protest. Our main agenda was to inform people to live happily with their families and not with mosquitoes. Children were very excited about sphere heading the awareness drive," said Indriyani, a participant.
