A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday for making an anonymous call warning that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's life was in danger, police said.

Veer Singh, a resident of Farsh Vihar in east Delhi, allegedly made the call Thursday to implicate a man who was harassing him to repay his dues. He had stolen a mobile phone from Narela in outer Delhi to make the call to the police control room and then called up the other man.

"Veer Singh thought the police would track down the other person and arrest him in connection with the death threat to the Delhi chief minister," a police officer said.

"We apprehended him after systematic investigations," the officer added.

Delhi Police beefed up Dikshit's 'Z' category security cover following the telephone call.

"We got a call at 11 p.m. The caller said the chief minister's life was in danger for the next 72 hours. As a precaution we have stepped up her security," a Delhi Police official said.

Dikshit, who has been chief minister of Delhi since 1998, said she was not worried.

"I don't have any fear. I am not worried," she told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the capital.
It also suggested that India should consider incentives like tax holidays and grants, and leverage its technical manpower against foreign technology. Besides, import of dual use technology should be encouraged as it benefits other segments of the economy also.
