Panshet resident Kailash Ashok Taware (25), attacked IAF sergeant Kailashchandra Ramchandra (36), of Lohegaon on December 3, 2011. The court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the convicted person.

According to police, the incident took place at the Pune railway station. Ramchandra and his colleagues were alighting the Kanyakumari Express, while Taware was looking to board the compartment. A heated argument ensued after Ramchandra asked Taware to let them get off first. Taware then started abusing him that led to a scuffle.

Soon, a railway police team arrived and started pacifying them. “The police were taking Ramchandra and Taware to the railway police station when Taware freed himself and bit off half of Ramchandra’s ear. He was was rushed to Command hospital, but despite an operation, his ear could not be rejoined,” said assistant public prosecutor Shilpa Mahatekar.

During the trial, Taware told the court that his front teeth are broken, and hence it was impossible for him to bite off Ramchandra’s ear. “We, however, proved that he had his front teeth at the time of the incident by submitting his medical report, which was prepared after his arrest and also submitted photographs in this regard,” added Mahatekar.u00a0
