A bag containing golden idols of Hindu deities and cash was no temptation for Mahadev Mendara, a railway employee, who took the bag promptly to the police. The idols and cash amounted to Rs 3.5 lakh.

Senior PI Mahendra Rokade of the Pune railway police station handed over the bag to the owner yesterday evening.

Rokade said the owner C V Ramana, a resident of Andhra Pradesh had filed a complaint on October 23. "His bag had fallen from a train compartment as the door was open during his journey by Tilak Kurla Express. He also gave a description of the lost bag."

The railway police started combing operation between Urali Kanchan village and Loni Kalbhor. "Mendara, a 40-year-old contract labourer, found the bag in a thicket and brought it to us today late noon," Rokade said.u00a0
