A Hindi adaptation of the very successful Marathi play Vichha Majhi Puri Kara will be staged at the NSD festival in New Delhi

The weeklong National School of Drama (NSD) festival in Delhi will have an interesting entrant this year. After a gap of nearly two decades, second year students of NSD, with the help of local tamasha artists from Pune, are staging Vichha Majhi Puri Kara, a Marathi play translated in Hindi on January 22.

The Hindi version, titled Sayya Bhaye Kotwal has been translated by Usha Mehta and has been staged in Pune and Delhi between December 2009 and January 2010.u00a0

Aniruddh Khutwad, an NSD student who is directing the play said, "Noted actors like Shahir Dada Pasalkar, Madhu Kambikar, Sushama Deshpande and scholars like Sandesh Bhandare explained the background of Tamasha to us."

Sandesh Bhandare, a noted photographer and who has also penned a book on Tamasha remarked, "The spontaneity and the contemporary connect in the adaptation is nice."

Gafurbhai Punekar, president Lokakala Chitra Kalavant Mandal, said that NSD's efforts to incorporate tamasha, a dying art is heartfelt. "We are grateful to NSD for staging the play in Delhi at prestigious festivals," he said.
