"After being convinced that all the officers were in place, he left the office. He didn't talk to any officials."
With word of his surprise visit spreading like wildfire, BBMP officials working during nights are pulling up their socks.u00a0
'It's necessary'
The commissioner admitted that he did pay his staff a surprise visit.
"Surpriseu00a0 visits are necessary in a place like BBMP. I just want to ensure that public woes are well addressed," he told MiD DAY. Meena has put a new system in place to coordinate BBMP's functions round the clock. More than 60 officials work night shifts from 6 pm to 6 am as most of the work including asphalting and attending public complaints occur at night. While one additional commissioner monitors officials on night shifts across eight zones, eight officers from departments like health and engineering at the central office coordinate the work.
All these officers are required to stay at the BBMP office.
