After prolonged discussions with education directors, the Maharashtra Secondary and Higher Secondary School Principal Organisation (MSHSSP) has withdrawn the six-day long bandh on mid-day meal scheme in aided secondary schools across the state.

Mid-day meal bandh is over

“Both the directors approved our demand to constitute a joint committee of senior officials and principals to frame a new policy about implementation of mid-day meal scheme in schools. Within next three months the committee will finalise the new policy,” said Arun Thorat, secretary of MSHSSP.

Primary education director Mahaveer Mane and secondary education director Sarjerav Jadhav approved the demand of MSHSSP of decreasing the daily intake of rice per student.

“According to the mid-day meal scheme till now every primary student was supposed to get 100 grams of rice and a secondary student was to receive 150 grams. However, in reality no student can consume this quantity.

That’s why we have asked that the quantity provided for daily intake be trimmed by 50 per cent, which both the directors have accepted,” said Thorat.
