Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar, when asked about the three BJP ministers, told reporters: "There are people all across the country who do worse things. Congress leaders have chopped up women and burnt them in a tandoor... In Madhya Pradesh, a Congressman chopped up his wife and fed her to crocodiles... Then there was the Bhanwari Devi case."
"They (the three Karnataka ministers) were only watching and not doing it in action like these Congressmen," said Parrikar, who also heads the BJP's good governance cell.
He added that the action of the Karnataka state BJP to immediately sack the three ministersu00a0-- Laxman Savadi, CC Patil and Krishna Palemaru00a0-- was laudable. "I congratulate the party for taking action quickly," Parrikar said.
'Immoral party'
Meanwhile, the Congress conituned its attack on the BJP, terming the latter as a supermarket where a "spectrum of immorality and irregularity is available under one roof called the BJP".
Commenting on the resignation of three BJP ministers who were caught viewing ponography on a cellphone in the state assembly, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "In the temple of democracy (assembly), you have pornography."
He added that in the "supermarket of BJP", "immorality was available in Karnataka, irregularity in Gujarat, corruption in Uttarakhand" and "interference" of Hindutva outfits in Madhya Pradesh.
BJP woes: K'taka advocate general quits
The ruling BJP in Karnataka, already battling debilitating scandals, is now caught in a new controversy. State Advocate General BV Acharya has resigned accusing the party of pressuring him to quit as prosecutor in a corruption case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Acharya said he has chosen to continue as special public prosecutor in the Jayalalithaa case rather than give in to the pressure from "the government and some BJP leaders". "I have been under tremendous pressure to quit as SPP," he said after submitting his resignation to Governor HR Bhardwaj.
However, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda denied Acharya's claims. He said that a petition has been filed in the high court challenging Acharya holding two posts simultaneously.
