MiD DAY had reported on Tuesday about how a 16-year-old boy had been arrested for raping a 13-year-old girl. The teenagers from Satara had eloped and come to Pune where they had stayed for a month.
The 14-year-old on Tuesday lodged a complaint at the Bund Garden police station. The girl's alleged lover, Sohan Gupta (20), a resident of Mangdewadi, has been arrested and booked for kidnapping and rape.
"Gupta and the victim knew each other since a while as they had been staying in the same area," said Police Sub-Inspector Mohini Sonar. "On July 10, he proposed marriage to the girl, and she accepted."
The police said Gupta took the girl to Mangdewadi where they rented a house. "During their stay there,
the two had sexual intercourse several times," said Sonar.
"In her statement to the police, the complainant has said that she did have intercourse with Gupta. Though the report of the medical examination is awaited, doctors confirmed that the girl had had sexual intercourse," said Sonar.
Gupta has been absconding and the police said they were trying to track him down.
