New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary.

"On his Punya Tithi, salutations to Sardar (Vallabhbhai) Patel. We remember his exemplary service and are inspired by his message of unity and integration," Modi tweeted.
Sardar Patel played a major role in the country's struggle for independence and subsequently guided its integration into a united, independent nation. Patel was born on October 31, 1875 in Gujarat's Nadiad town. He died on December 15, 1950.
