Institute found housing unwed pregnant women yet to reply to show-cause notice served by DWCD authorities

In a bid to check irregularities at adoption homes, District Women and Child Development (DWCD) Officer Suvarna Pawar made surprise visits to more than 20 orphanages in the district. According to Pawar, almost all have been served show-cause notices for not maintaining cleanliness, non-maintenance of daily records and for unpunctuality of staff members.

MiD DAY had reported yesterday about the show-cause notice served to
SOFOSH

This information surfaced a day after MiD DAY reported that Shreevatsa was served a show-cause notice after the DWCD Officer found four unwed pregnant women illegally staying at the adoption centre. According to Women And Child Development officials, adoption centres are to refrain from allowing unwed pregnant women to stay on the premises as there are chances that they can be pressured into abandoning the child for adoption.

Deputy Commissioner H B Rathod said the initial report had been submitted regarding this. Rathod said the institute concerned had not submitted the reply to the show-cause notice yet. Sofosh Director Madhuri Abhyankar said that the reply to the show-cause notice would be submitted today.

Pawar, who had submitted a report to the Commissioner's office regarding her surprise visit to the institute on July 7, said it was true that unwed pregnant women need support to face this phase in their life because of pressure from society. She added that unwed pregnant women need strong support and counseling, but adoption centres are denied permission to allow them to stay as they can be pressured to abandon their child for adoption.
