Authorities conducted a successful safety mock drill at Anik Wadala Road for the safe evacuation of passengers from Monorail on the guideway to ground level on Thursday morning.
The Mumbai fire department’s Antop Hill Fire Station, the Wadala Truck Terminal Police Station and the Matunga Traffic Division were the agencies which participated in the mock rescue operations.

Talking about the operations, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said, “The mock drill, a standard practice, is a simulated exercise to re-affirm the processes and the readiness of the operations in responding to a specific emergency situation. All the activities were conducted according to the approved standard operating procedures for the Mumbai Monorail Operations.”
The mock drill, which was conducted on Thursday, was conducted to check the response time of the Fire Department once an emergency call had been placed from a stationary train with "passengers" on board. It also tested the effectiveness of a snorkel unit to rescue the "passengers" from the train.
The 2-hour drill only involved the relevant authorities and operations personnel posing as "passengers" with hardly any disruption to any public facility or convenience.

The drill was conducted under the supervision of assessors from Mott MacDonald, the independent assessor for testing and commissioning; assessors from SMRT, the MMRDA appointed safety assessor; senior officials from MMRDA and LTSE (Larsen & Toubro and Scomi Engineering Bhd Consortium).
The Mumbai Monorail operation has an extensive safety and emergency rescue plan. Mock Safety Drills are part of this plan and will be regularly conducted to ensure the operation is well prepared to respond to any emergency situation.u00a0
