He paid a heavy price for it.
Lying in a bed at Rajawadi Hospital, Khan’s body is a testimony to the savage nature of the assault he was subjected to.
The victim was admitted there on Saturday after being attacked with iron rods and sharp objects by goons who were sexually harassing the 15- year- old girl. The offenders were incensed by Khan’s refusal to take back an FIR against them.
According to police officials, the accused have been identified as Sherbano, Parveen Bano, Satar Takla, Salim Chukka, Shazid, Hamid Langda and Chintu. The first three have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody till July 26.

Speaking to MiD DAY, the victim’s wife Mehtab Khan said, “ These goons live in our neighbourhood, and Hamid Langda, who is the main culprit, has been chasing my daughter for months. But, after I raised my voice against them, they started misbehaving with me too.
Fed up with this, my husband went and filed an FIR on April 23. While Langda was being taken to court, his relatives came and threatened us to take back the case registered against him, or they would harm us.” The family says the daughter too went to the police station on the day of the attack, but a case was only registered the following day. Mehtab also alleged that no security has been provided to them despite the incident. “ We are afraid of stepping out of the house. My daughter has now passed out of Std X, but I haven’t admitted her in junior college, fearing for her safety,” she said.
The accused have been booked under sections 307 ( attempt to murder), 323 ( punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 ( intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 143 ( punishment for unlawful assembly), 144 ( joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon), 148 ( rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 ( every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object).
