The construction work of the first phase is at the final stage. In the mall that will be thrown open for the public in December this year, tenants will be allotted space for fit-outs next month.

"As we knew that the people here were eagerly waiting for a mall, we decided to construct one soon.

However, it was not a cakewalk. We had to cover a long distance to achieve this milestone," said Uday Gaudachar, MD, Garuda Group.

The first phase of the project, which is a joint venture between Mysore Municipal Council (MCC) and Gauda Group, is near completion with a built up area of 2,40,000 sq ft.

The municipality will handover another 2,60,000 sq ft for the second phase.

The estimated revenue from the mall to the MCC would be about Rs 3.2 crore a year. The revenue will come in the form of shop rental, parking fee, and property tax.

Even Mysoreans are eagerly waiting for the mall to start soon. Sheetal Misra, project manger with the Mysore campus of an IT major, said, "I'm really excited about a mall coming up here.
