"We have lodged a FIR and investigating the matter and will soon reached the criminals", senior police officer said.

According to neighbours, Maini was a decent fellow but was a dipsomaniac and would verbally abuse people when he didn't get alcohol.

"The probability of this being a murder and robbery related case is very low as he was a poor man with hardly any personal assets. He worked with UNI and resigned from there and was living on pension. That was his only source of income. He had good relations with his neighbours," said C Chandranan, member of the local Residents Welfare Association (RWA).

Sources said that on the day of his murder Maini was seem talking to a neighbour at around 7.30 p.m. Later when his son came to meet him he was found dead inside. According to Anthony, his father stayed in his own flat, away from his family, because of his habit of drinking and abusing people. He was in bad company and would roam around with the wrong kind of people," said the son.

Two held for murder

Two persons were arrested by the crime branch for allegedly murdering a truck driver and decamping with goods worth Rs 36 lakh which were inside the truck. The duo, identified as Irfan (23) and Mehtab (39) were arrested and the stolen plastic granules weighing 18 tonnes were recovered from them, said senior police officials. The deceased has been identified as Suraj (22).
The duo were apprehended on Sunday on a tip-off that the gang would be coming to Narela Industrial Area to dispose of the stolen goods. Two trucks were also seized. Irfan and Prakash, two truck drivers, who used to drive trucks from ICD Container Depot, Tuglakabad, befriended the deceased Suraj who used to generally transport plastic granules. According to police, Prakash and Irfan hatched a plan to steal plastic granules with Mehtab for whom they used to steal.
