The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday asked Uttar Pradesh government as to why the victim of a gang rape in the state's Bijnore should not get compensation
"Findings in the case are very disturbing and shocking... the commission has issued a notice to the state chief secretary to show cause why monetary relief should not be recommended to be paid to the victim," said an official of NHRC.

Earlier April 18, the Commission had issued a notice to the state government over the alleged gang rape of a girl in Bijnore April 11.
The incident was reported in media after which the commission took suo motu cognizance.
"In response to a notice, the Uttar Pradesh government has not only confirmed the gang rape of a girl in Bijnore but also local police inaction," the commission stated Tuesday.
"The chief secretary is expected to respond within six weeks, failing which the matter will be decided on merits," an official added.
According to media reports, the unconscious girl was left bleeding in a field. It was only the next day that her uncle found her.
