Despite the elections approaching, the movement of private planes in Pune has increased by only five per cent compared to last month

With the general elections approaching, airport officials expect to see chartered planes and helicopters fighting

for airspace. Yet surprisingly, the private plane activity in the city has seen a mere five per cent rise compared to last month.

This indicates that the netas aren't using private planes to fly to and from the city. According to people, there might be two reasons for the same. One, as the politicians know there is not much they can do to influence voters given the present political scenario in the city.

The other reason seems to be that they are spending their money more carefully given the fact that the Election Commission is keeping a sharp eye on their campaign expenditure.

However, it may be noted that Narendra Modi had visited the city last month followed by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and R R Patil.

Also, speculations are rife that the number of chartered planes and helicopters coming in will increase in the latter half of April, as Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit will be visiting the city.
