UoP plans to declare reval results in 15 days with Central Assessment System
Starting from next term, the process of revaluating answer sheets will be faster at the University of Pune, thanks to the Central Assessment System (CAS) that is being put in place.
The university is in the process of implementing the CAS, in which the answer sheets from one college will be handed over to another for evaluation, and the university will also call senior teachers to its campus to speed up the process.
According to sources in the university, every year more than 1,000 students have to wait for over three months to get their results after applying for revaluation.
Fearing students might lose an academic year if the process is prolonged, the state education department had directed the Mumbai and Pune universities to declare the revaluation results within 15 days from the day of submission of applications.
More than 30,000 applications are received by the university every year for photocopies of their answer sheets, and most of these students go on to apply for revaluation.
In order to fast-track the process, from this month the university will be calling 15-20 senior professors to recheck the papers of the applicants from other colleges.
"We have received the applications and will be considering it. Earlier we would give bundles of answer sheets of all faculties randomly to teachers in the university.
But now we will hand over the answer sheets immediately after exams to senior, experienced teachers, who will have to gather at the central office for assessment," said Controller of Examination Dr S M Ahire.
Alpita Shenoy, an SYBSc student, said students have suffered in the past because of delays in revaluation.
"Earlier, the revaluation process would take three to five months after the declaration of results, which is too long," Shenoy said. "It has been an ongoing problem, and if more experienced teachers are put on the task, the students will not suffer."
