New traffic masterplan for Gurgaon
The millennium city needs 20 more flyovers, 23 subways, 17 multilevel parking spots and 4 interchanges to avoid traffic congestion, Gurgaon police has recommended.
In a report titled 'Gurgaon Traffic Master Plan', submitted to Haryana Chief Secretary Dharam Vir Singh, the police have suggested changes in District Planning department for ensuring smooth flow of traffic. "The police has recommended that it should be made mandatory for HUDA, HSIIDC and private builders to have large multilevel parking spot in the townships floated by them in future," Gurgaon Police Commissioner S S Deswal said.
An NOC from police department should also be taken before approving a new township for security reasons, Deswal recommended. As Delhi-Gurgaon expressway is a fast moving stretch, four interchanges like that at AIIMS are needed on Shankar chowk, Iffco chowk, Signature chowk and Hero Honda chowk for free movement of vehicles at the intersection.
The police has also recommended construction of flyovers and subways at Narsinghpur, IMT, Pachgaon Chowk and Bilaspur crossing on NH-8. They also suggested construction of 5 more subways in the city. The officer said, vehicular movement is increasing at an annual rate of roughly 10 to 15 per cent with around 40,000 vehicles being registered in Gurgaon annually.
