She was married six years ago but she still could not conceive due to a tumour in her uterus. But this year, her urge to have a child made her to go for comprehensive medical treatment. A friend suggested she go to India. Surprisingly, when doctors at Kalra Hospital in Delhi investigated, they found 57 tumours inside her uterus, a world record. The previous record was 46.

"She was brought here on February 28 at night. Her ultrasound and relevant tests revealed she had these tumours in her uterus. She wanted to conceive but was unable to have a baby, even after six years of marriage. Her uterus showed multiple fibroids so we took her for immediate surgery," said Dr RN Kalra, Medical Director, Kalra Hospital, where she underwent an operation.

The size of her tumours varied from 1mm to 6cm. Even the doctors were surprised to see the numbers. The complicated surgery went on for 90 minutes. "While operating upon her, we were astonished to see the large number of tumours. Some of them were so small in size, that it became difficult for us to find them. But now, all of them are out and she is in her good health," said Dr Beena Grover, another doctor from Kalra Hospital who was a part of the surgery.

Meanwhile, her family members are happy to see her in better health. "She will be very happy now. She just loves kids. Her husband will be overjoyed when he comes to know about this. They both wanted a kid for the past several years. Now god has granted their wish," said Adaku, Florence's sister-in-law.

'Operation successful'
An ovarian tumour weighing 7 kg was successfully removed by doctors in a city hospital during a four-hour long surgery last month. The 45-year-old woman was admitted to the Action Cancer Hospital in Paschim Vihar area of west Delhi on January 27 following complaints of abdominal distension and the doctors detected the 7 kg, 10-inch tumour. "A team of doctors headed by S.K. Das, senior consultant of Gynae-Oncology, performed the surgery" the official said. The surgery was done without a break and the patient was discharged six days later," Das said.
