Three weeks after Lokayukta Justice Shivraj Patil stepped down owing to his alleged involvement in a land scam case, his deputy Justice R Gururajan's resignation yesterday is largely being seen as a self-protection move.

According to political experts, Gururajan, who owns an apartment in Malleshwaram and even got allotted a plot too in Judicial layout, perhaps took this precautionary step to retain his property and avoid the embarrassment of being dragged into a controversy.
Justice Gururajan tendered his resignation to the governor H Bharadwaj within one and a half months of his appointment.

Though he citing personal reasons, sources in the Lokayukta office said that he decided to step down after learning that someone was trying to dig out details of his assets details.
