Concerned over repeated terror alerts issued to adjoining Dagadhusheth temple, the authorities install baggage scanner at Faraskhana building from where three police stations function out

Repeated terror alerts to Dagadusheth Halwai temple have prompted the police to install a baggage scanner in the adjoining Faraskhana building, which houses two police stations and offices of high-ranking cops.u00a0According to the police, the building is located within 100 meters from this temple.

Faraskhana building houses Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations.u00a0Offices of two assistant police commissioners, a deputy commissioner and an additional commissioner of police and the special branch also function out of the building.

Commenting on installation of baggage scanner, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said, "We have installed baggage scanner at the entrance of Faraskhana building, considering its proximity to Dagadusheth temple and also taking into account the important offices housed here."
According to sources, the equipment, which was installed some eight days ago, will start functioning once the cabin is constructed.u00a0Faraskhana building is not the only police establishment in Pune to have baggage scanners. Last year, one such scanner was installed at the Police Commissioner's Office. It is understood that police headquarters at Shivajinagar will also have similar facility in days to come.u00a0
Security plans
Around 5,000 devoteees visit Dagadusheth Halwai temple every day. According to the police, they review of security arrangements of the temple on a daily basis. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said, "We also ask the temple authorities to upgrade security measures from time to time."u00a0It is understood that temple authorities have been asked to construct a 7-ft tall boundary wall with bulletproof glasses on top. But they have claimed their helplessness to construct the same due to presence of shops and stalls around it.
