The war against terror is going local.

A few weeks ago, inspectors of all police stations were given special powers to crack down on terror activities in their areas. "Both the inspector and the sub-inspector on special duty will share the information gathered directly with the assistant commissioner of police and the deputy commissioner of the district," said a senior police official, requesting anonymity.u00a0

"The ASIs were trained to handle special arms and collect evidences and were relieved from their normal duties. They are now meeting hawkers, parking boys and common citizens to gather information," a source in the police department told MID DAY.

Confirming the move, Rajan Bhagat, public relations officer, Delhi Police, said, "An inspector has been put in charge of the anti-terror wing."

Earlier, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police used to handle all terror-related cases alone.

The present move was taken following Home Minister P Chidambaram's apprehensions about the Capital's security.
