Now get your electricity bill details by sending an SMS

Next time you face a power disruption, just SMS your complaint on this number 5545464, if you are a BSES customer.

The power utility launched the service on Monday amidst complaints from consumers that they have to wait for long to register their complaints over the phone as it is not toll-free.

The service can also be used for getting bill details. Initially, the service was launched for consumers of the BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) that supplies electricity to east Delhi. However, officials said BSES Rajdhani Power Limited - the power utility for south and west Delhi - would soon follow the suit.

Ramesh Narayanan, CEO, BYPL said: "The company's modern call centre is sometimes under pressure during the summer months, and at times callers have to wait for a while before being put through an agent. In a bid to redress this issue, the SMS service has been launched."

In the initial phase, the SMS service will be available to BYPL consumers having Single Phase meters and will cover nearly 80 per cent out of the total 11 lakh consumers.

The SMS service has been designed and developed in-house by company's IT department with inputs from customer care, operations and maintenance departments. The service has been designed in a way that consumer's SMS first reaches the central server, which automatically generates a return acknowledgement and simultaneously routes the SMS to the concerned division and the official. The service has been started in a bid to improve costumer service being provided by BRPL.
