Accused stole pure oil from tankers headed for Kalyani Industries, would refill them with adulterated oil, water and caustic soda; cops suspect insider's hand
The Social Security Cell (SSC) of Pune Police yesterday busted an oil adulteration racket and arrested two persons and seized four oil tankers, three cellphones and cash worth Rs 20 lakh.

The SSC officials said that the adulteration was being carried on a dumping ground at Moshi in Chakan.
The arrested duo has been identified as Vijay Laxman Pandey (40), a resident of Walhekar Wadi in Chinchwad and Balu Nanasaheb Survase (24) a resident of Kharadi.
"We received specific information that some people are involved in an oil adulteration racket and based on the information, we raided the spot yesterday morning and arrested two people," said Bhanu Pratap Barge, senior police inspector, SSC.
Barge added that a manhunt has been launched against six to seven people, who were present at the spot, but managed to escape during the raid. According to Barge, oil tankers that would come in from Mumbai were first taken to the dumping ground, before they were directed to Kalyani Industries.
At the Moshi dumping ground, the arrested duo along with its accomplices would steal about 8,000 litres of pure oil,u00a0and refill the taker with adulterated oil, water and caustic soda. "We suspect that some of the employees of Kalyani Industries are involved in this racket and have handed over the case to Bhosari police for further investigation," he said.
