In a fatal mishap on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, one person died and two were grievously injured after a sedan rammed into the railing of a tunnel near Lonavla.
The deceased was identified by the police as Chandrakant Martanda Bhagwat (45) of Ichalkarniji, and he was believed to be driving the car when it crashed into the tunnel railing some 52 km from the city.
The accident occurredu00a0 around 11 am yesterday.
Bhagwat was on his way to Mumbai in his Honda City, and had probably asked his driver to rest while he took the wheel.
Bhagwat's wife Ranjana (40) and driver Pankaj Deshmal Babhel (40) sustained grievous injuries on their legs and were admitted to the Lokmanya hospital in Lonavla.
The Lonavla city police registered the accident case.
According to sources, the accident took place as a result of Bhagwat losing control of his vehicle.
