Colonel loses son out for a spin with a friend

Two days after the hit-and-run case of Colonel Shyamlal Bhuselal Tiwari near Bremen Chowk in Aundh that claimed a man's life and left one injured, another colonel lost his son in a car accident.

Pratik Vijay Lal (22), the deceased, was in a car with his friend, who lost control over the vehicle and hit
the road divider near Golibar Maidan late in the night on Tuesday.

The incident took place when Mustafa Jainuddin Poonawala, Lal's friend and a resident of Wanowrie, was driving a Martui Zen and rammed it into an electric pole, causing fatal injuries to Lal.

Lal was admitted to Command Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. According to the Wanowrie police, Lal was the son of Colonel Vijay Lal, who is with the Military Engineers division.

The city has one of the state's highest accident figures.

The police said Poonawala and Lal were final year students of Symbiosis College and were going from Lullanagar towards Golibar Maidan when the accident took place. Constable Mane, who was on night duty, registered a complaint of negligent driving against Poonawala.

Dr Prashant Khandelwal, who is treating Poonawala, said, "Poonawala is stable and has two fractures on
his face. He was operated on on Wednesday evening for correctional procedures, and will be discharged
from the hospital in the next three days."
