Fashionistas in the city can look forward to a "unique experience" with the organisers of the Pune Fashion Week (PFW) announcing its spring-summer edition. Though the dates are yet to be announced formally, the organisers said it will be held between March 17 and 20.
Badal Saboo, managing director of PFW, said, "Yes, the dates have been finalised for March 17 to 20. We
will make a formal announcement after a few days along with some concepts we are introducing this year. It's little early to speak about them because we are waiting for a confirmation."
The four-day event will have 16 designers from the city, country and abroad. Saboo said a couple of international designers would definitely showcase their work. "Though we are yet to confirm the names, we are getting a lot of enquires which is great. Invites have been sent to a few designers and we have short-listed a few names, which will hopefully work out."
Best from industry
Unlike last two years, this year the fashion event will be held soon after the Lakme Fashion Week, which is held between March 11 and 15. This means that the outfits and accessories will be fresh and new.
A lot of guests had pointed out last year that because the fashion week was held after all the other big events, there was nothing new to see except for the city designers.
He said, "The fashion week will have the best in the industry including designers, clothes, accessories and models."
In terms of business, the organisers are also looking forward to invite national and international buyers.
For the city it's more about business at PFW and they believe that the focus should solely be to bring buyers to the forum.u00a0
City designers say
Nivedita Saboo, fashion designer from the city, who has been actively involved with the PFW, said the focus should shift to making it a business event rather than an entertaining one.

"We should have more stores and retail houses, city designers should get coverage nationally and internationally, which the organisers are taking care of, but more than anything each and every one involved in the fashion industry from the city should get employment," said Saboo.
Seema Singh, another designer voicing the same thoughts said the agenda should be on getting more national and international buyers so that designers get exposure.
But fashion experts in the city see the fashion week as one big event but not a place to do business. They said that there was not much scope to do business here.
An owner of a popular designer store said, "There isn't much scope for business because the idea of fashion week is to get prospective retail houses or buyers to buy the products which does not happen."u00a0
That is not all. The team is also focusing on Gen Next shows where new designers will be able to showcase their collection and also work with popular designers.
