Accepting the demand of the opposition, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday made a statement in the Lok Sabha on the arrest and subsequent release of Gandhian activist Anna Hazare. He is scheduled to speak in the Rajya Sabha at 11.30 a.m.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 11.30 a.m. when the prime minister will read out his statement.

In the Lok Sabha, the prime minister was constantly heckled by the opposition and he had to interrupt his speech. Speaker Meira Kumar had to repeatedly ask the opposition benches to keep quiet.

Hazare was arrested Tuesday, when he was to launch an indefinite fast against government's Lokpal bill, and sent to Tihar Jail. He was subsequently released but refused to leave until he was allowed to undertake his fast without any conditions.
