Public transport agency says direction change will mean buses don't have to take U-turn to enter depot on PMC road

The development took place at a traffic coordination committee meeting between the traffic police, PMC and PMPML this October. Currently, vehicles from the Mangala Talkies road are allowed to move towards the PMC road, which is perpendicular to it. The buses headed towards the depot have to take U-turns to enter it.
The PMPML request comes after the traffic police asked for a statistical survey of the number of buses plying through the terminus, major routes connecting it and the number of passengers transiting everyday. It had also asked the transport authority to find ways to reduce traffic jams caused by the buses on the PMC Road.
The PMC road sees massive traffic jams when PMPML buses coming from the Dengle Bridge take U-turns from the divider to enter the waiting areas. Traffic coming from both JM Road and Dengle Bridge is blocked, which is further aggravated by a signal on the PMC road.
Sunil Gawli, traffic manager, PMPML, said that around 40 per cent of the buses would not have to take U-turns, which will come as a major relief to motorists. "Vehicles have to wait till buses complete their U-turns even when the signal is green. Sometimes, there are more than two buses taking turns, which worsen the situation. If the one-way is reversed, our buses can directly take the bridge opposite the talkies, and head to their respective destinations," he said.u00a0
