Parking outside your own home could soon attract a fine. That's if the new Parking Draft Policy is approved in a couple of months.
"Buildings are supposed to provide ample parking space. But most of the time, visitors are not allowed to park inside and are forced to park on the road," said M N Srihari, traffic expert and advisor.u00a0
"Some office buildings too do not provide parking space for employees and vehicles are parked on roads," he said.
Not so fine
According to him, the policy will allow the police to fine the building owners as well as the security guards. Even owners of individual houses without parking spaces will be fined.
"A 40x60 site should have parking space for at least one car. A 60 x 80 site should have space for two," he said. Srihari added that owners will not be allowed to park their vehicles outside their houses on the road.

Some people however are pleased with the proposal.
Deepak B N, who works on Airport Road, said, "Our building has many offices in it, but not enough parking space. If we park inside, we pay a fee on an hourly basis. So we try to park outside, but residents have 'No parking' boards outside their homes. Sometimes we end up parking there and our vehicles get towed away," he said.
On the other hand, Aastha D, an MNC employee, feels if the rule is enforced, she may have to shell out more rent.
