The Kothrud police have arrested Rakesh Revale (24), a peon at a credit society, on charges of armed robbery that took place on Sunday. Revale's absence at the exact time of the robbery led the police to suspect him.
When the cops investigated the matter further, they came to know that he was involved in the robbery where Rs 1.7 lakh were looted from the office of Dhanashri Krupa Urban Credit Society (DKUCS) in Kothrud.
The police have arrested Revale and his brother-in-law in connection with the robbery. They have also found the involvement of a third person who is yet to be arrested. Investigations are on about the involvement of other staff members in the case.
On Sunday two armed men forcefully entered into the office of DKUCS when only one staff member Shubhangi Sardeshmukh was present inside. Two other employees, a clerk and a peon, Vinod Dal (19), had gone out.
Revale is Dal's brother-in-law, who is originally from Mahad and currently stays in Kothrud. DCP (Zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare, said, "We have identified the other robber. Both of them had brought a sharp sword-like weapon and threatened to kill the complainant and took Rs 1.7 lakh cash. They fled away on a motorcycle."
Case solved in a day
Soon after Revale's arrest, the police also arrested Dal from the credit society's office. "We have recovered all the cash from Revale and have seized the bike they used to flee. We are sure to arrest the third robber soon.
None of them have any prior crime record," said Phadtare.
A team lead by Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Ghodke, which solved the case within 24 hours comprised constables Jonny D'Mello, Santosh Pagar, Raju Borde, Vijay Gurav, Mehboob Mokashi, Shivram Kadam, Amol Bhishe, Govind Phad and Manoj Pandhare.
