Kapurthala(Pb): A school peon who was cleaning the premises today under 'swachh bharat' campaign here stumbled on a cache of ammunition packed inside three gunny bags purportedly stolen from adjoining army cantonment area.

Army has launched a court of inquiry into the incident, an army spokesman said.
Virsa, the peon, was about to lit the collected garbage behind the school premises, adjoining to the army cantonment, when he saw three packed cement gunny bags.
On opening, he found 695 hand grenade fuses, 20 empty shells and two live cartridges, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhanpreet Kaur, said.
The private school peon informed the principal of the school and police was called.
PCR in-charge Inspector Jang Bahdaur along with police force reached the spot and took the ammunition into possession.
The Inspector said that the ammunition was in 139 boxes and each box contained hand gernade's five fuses which could be used as it was fresh ammunition stock of 2010.
Police suspect that the stock was stolen from the armoury as the army area begins after the school backyard and there was a breach in the barbed fencing of the army, the Inspector said.
The SSP said that the army was verifying its stock of ammunition and action will be taken after the findings of the army.
Police have not registered any case and was awaiting the findings of the army.
