R N Balagiri, a software engineer with Honeywell Technologies Solutions Ltd, on Bannerghatta road, is the latest victim of phishing. A day after Balagiri received his salary, he got an email claiming to be from Axis Bank, where he has his salary account, seeking his account details to upgrade the services. Balagiri promptly provided all the necessary details,u00a0 and a few hours later he realised that Rs 24,000 had been withdrawn from his account.u00a0
Balagiri after contacting the bank came to know that he was duped through a fishing mail, and later filed a complaint with the police.u00a0
Modus Operandi
The hackers create websites and send out mails which has almost similar features of the original, making it difficult for the online customers to differentiate between a genuine andu00a0 phishing e-mail. After obtaining the account details, the hackers immediately withdraw money using e-banking facility and transfer the funds to their accounts.
