Mobile of man slain six months ago over love affair traced to accused

The call details and IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) number of a murdered man's mobile phone helped the police finally crack a case that had proved to be a tough nut for six months. It seems one of the nine arrested for the murder could not resist pocketing the dead man's mobile phone.

The first breakthrough came when the deceased was identified as Madeyan, a real estate businessman. The body had been found in some bushes in SRK Garden, near Tilak Nagar, with few clues to even the identity of the deceased.

The photograph was also sent to the crime record bureau to see if it was that of any missing people.

At the crime record bureau, the deceased was identified as Madeyan, a missing real estate businessman from a place under the Madiwala police station jurisdiction.

Love angle

The police contacted Madeyan's brother, K Gopi, who identified the body.

Gopi also gave details of Madeyan's friends. The friends gave a lead: Madeyan was in love with a Muslim girl from Tilaknagar.

The police obtained a vital clue in the form of Madeyan's mobile phone details.

A requisition for call details was sent to the mobile phone service provider along with the IMEI number of Madeyan's phone, and the information obtained led the police to a man called Mohammed Hafeez (20).u00a0u00a0 He said he had taken the mobile from his friend Akbar and used it only for only a day.

Akbar was picked up, and the police said he confessed he and his friends had murdered Madeyan because of his love affair with Hajira, a Muslim girl.

More arrests

The police soon arrested the others, identified as Mohammed Akbar, Khaza Mohisuddin, Zaheer Khan, Sayyed Nyamat, Harshad, Safeer Ahmed, Habib Lal and Abdul Rehman.

Confession

The police said the accused confessed all, saying the affair of Madeyan, a native of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, with Hajira had enraged them. They reportedly said they had caught the lovers together in a Taverekere park, and took Madeyan away and bludgeoned him with bricks and clubs. Some of them are said to have abducted Haajira, taking her to a madrassa in Punganoor.

The police said they went to Punganoor and brought back Hajira.

"Hajira will be a witness in the case," said Police Inspector N Srinidhi.
