Plan to restrict mushrooming MBA institutes ready: Rajesh Tope

The State Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope said that the state has outlined measures to check the mushrooming of engineering and management colleges, hinting that a plan will soon be implemented.

“The proposed perspective plan has been developed by considering the needs for the next 25 years. Once we get the cabinet’s approval, the plan would be implemented,” Tope said.

The minister was in the city to inaugurate the newly constructed girls hostel and academic complex building of the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP).


After the inauguration ceremony, Tope announced that CoEP would soon get a deemed university status. “The college has already applied for deemed university status, and I assured all students, faculty and board members that the government would take all the required efforts to convert the autonomous college to a deemed university,” he said.

The 154-year-old prestigious CoEP has around 42 acres of land in Shivajinagar. However, most of the land is either encroached by slums or by some government or private agencies.

“I will make the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme (SRA) would be implemented to make the land available to the college for further infrastructural expansion,” Tope said.u00a0
