Police await docs' nod for Subhojit statement

The death of Priyadarshini Basu (23), whose IIT engineer brother Subhojit (29) stands accused of strangling her in the wee hours of Wednesday, has left her parents shattered.

Subhojit had attempted suicide after his sister was dead.

Subhojit's statement was still to be recorded at the Hinjewadi police station yesterday as his condition was not yet stable.

Senior Police Inspector Ganpath Madgular said, "The doctors have not yet given us permission to record his statement."

Silence all around
The family was not in a position to speak on the tragedy. Aurbindo Roy, the IIT professor Subhojit contacted after his sister was dead and who called the police, also refused to speak. "As a citizen of India, I have the right to remain silent. Please do not disturb me," he said.

The Basu siblings had been living in the city for a year-and-half. Priyadarshini was working with the NGO Greenpeace, while her brother had started a business which failed, leaving him mentally disturbed.
