The 10-year old was raped on Sunday. A police case was registered and the child along with her mother was sent to local hospital for medical tests. As they returned to the police station on Monday morning the women police locked up the young girl.
The incident came to light when a local freelance TV journalist visited the police station and shoot footage of the girl in lock. He then took the footage to the district top cop for assistance.
Despite video evidence, the station in-charge, Gayashree Chauhan, denied the allegations of having locked up the girl.
Acting on the evidence, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gulab Singh, ordered transfer of Gayashree Chauhan and other senior inspector and suspended two women constables.
Meanwhile, cutting across party lines, all political parties condemned the incident.
