It was a happy moment for Ranjeet Telange, a 31-year-old engineer, who finally found his stolen bike (MH06/U – 3222) after 15 months. His vehicle was traced by the police with the help of a newly launched portal — designed to locate stolen vehicles — by a city-based IT company, G N solutions.

“I had purchased this bike from my first salary. Losing it from the parking lot of Shripad Society, located in Sadashiv Peth, on October 31, 2010, was an unpleasant experience,” said Telange.

He added that he learnt about the website after MiD DAY had reported about it on January 4 (Now, portal to help trace missing vehicles faster). “I received an email from the portal that the vehicle’s number was spotted in the unclaimed vehicle list of Nigdi police station on March 16, 2012,” said Telange, who had lodged a complaint at Visharmbaug police station as well as on the portal.

“I went and identified my vehicle at Nigdi, but still it is with the police. Formalities and paperwork is delaying the handing over process,” he said.

Vinay Deshpande, director, G N Solutions, said, “We are happy as this was the first detection made by the police using our portal.

We informed Telange by via email, when his stolen vehicle was located on March 16 at Nigdi police station.” Deshpande had visited Nigdi police station to confirm the existence of Telange’s stolen vehicle.

“The vehicle was intact, except its battery and seat, which were missing,” he informed. Vijay Palsule, police inspector from Traffic Branch, Pune Police, said, “We have uploaded a direct link to the portal — www.missingvehicle.co.in — on our website, that is www.punetrafficpolice.gov.in.”u00a0
