Designer Divya Mohta has launched Tambourine, a brand of prints that can be transferred on textiles, furnishingsu00a0-- even your living room wallpaper

If you saw a quaint design on a China plate and wondered how it would look on a headscarf, Divya Mohta will make it happen. After a year-long sabbatical, the designer is back in business to do what she is best atu00a0-- creating prints and textures while playing with colours. But this time there is a twist in the tale. Her new label, Tambourine, offers prints and designs that can be used not just on textiles and fashion accessories but also on soft home furnishings, crockery, even wood, plastic and wallpapers.

"For now, I am playing with textiles, handbags, accessories and sandals, but I intend to move to furnishings and tableware soon. You can place a customised order placed if you wish to try unusual surfaces," she says.
Her first collection titled Peacock Garden is scheduled for an August 11 launch, and is inspired by the traditional Ikat weave and Chintz styles.

"Ikat involves geometrical patterns, while Chintz is floral-driven and made using natural dyes. The designs I have created are exclusive enough to be copyrighted," she says. But she won't. "I have about 500 designs, and would have to pay Rs 7,500 to copyright each of them. That's a lot of money."
