Why is a swanky salon named after a Biblical chapter that's often recited at funerals? What's On just had to find out!

Psalms are Biblical verses written in praise of the Lord, characterised as poems by some, and as songs by others. Psalm 23, specifically, is a verse from the Book of David, and starts off like this: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters...

And if the association to death and the river of souls does not come through clearly enough in those lines, it cannot evade you in the lines that follow: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Understandably, the psalm is often narrated at funerals. And if some of these lines above sound familiar, it's because you may have heard them during a funeral scenes in a Hollywood flick.

It's a miracle: Not only does Ity Aggarwal, owner of the new South Mumbai salon christened Psalm 23, not associate the verse with death, she's actually marked the birth of her dream-project with its name.

"The first line of the psalm means I will never be in need of anything," explains Ity, who describes herself as deeply spiritual. The salon is a dream-project that materialised when she least expected it. "I was actually putting it together for someone else. Now, I'm a partner. This has been a miracle for me the support I received, the timing... all of it."
