Pune: A 43-year-old Army officer committed suicide yesterday at the Air Force Station in Lohegaon Airport base. Subedar Beant Singh, a Junior Commission Officer (JCO) has left behind a note where he has written that he was harassed by four of his seniors, names of whom were also mentioned.

Inspector Sanjay Kurundkar, in-charge of Airport police station, said, “In his suicide note written in Hindi, Singh has blamed four seniors for ruining his life by levelling baseless allegations against him. The superior rank officers are two colonels, one Subedar and one subedar-cum-captain-cum-warrant officer. We are in touch with the Army officials for further investigation.”

Singh shot himself twice in the chest around 10.40 am, and upon discovery was rushed to the hospital associated with Armed Forces Medical College, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Prima facie investigation revealed that he shot himself using his firearm. His body will be sent for autopsy today, after which it will be handed over to his family. Singh, originally from Himachal Pradesh had been serving the Army since the past two decades. A case of accidental death has been registered.

The statement released by the Defence PRO said, “Singh was posted at the Field Post Office located at Air Force Station, Pune and was staying alone. His body was found with two bullet holes and a civil revolver was lying by his side. The next of kin has been informed. Investigation by Civil and Military Police is on.”
