The RTO carried out a surprise drive to create awareness about the importance of renewing vehicle registrations
Aiming to create awareness amongst citizens about the importance of renewing registrations for vehicles, the RTO and the traffic police joined hands on Sunday to carry out a surprise drive at various parts of the city between 8 am and 5 pm. During the drive, as many as 444 vehicles were seized for expired registrations.
According to an RTO official, vehicle registrations should be renewed every 15 years, as the vehicles need to be checked for their road fitness and environmental impact.
Yogesh Bagh, Assistant Regional Transport Officer said, “The percentage of carbon monoxide is on the higher side in old vehicles, resulting in more pollution, which is why we carried out the drive - so that the citizens can be aware and take measures.” “During inspection, if we find that the condition of the vehicle’s engine is poor, we seize the vehicle. On Sunday, we took action against 244 two wheelers, 34 four wheelers and several commercial vehicles.” Bagh added.
Sarang Awad, DCP Traffic, said, “We will be carrying out another special drive in the coming days, so that citizens are aware of their responsibility to check their vehicle registrations.”
