99, 99, 100, 95, 97. These are not the scores of a champion batsman, but the marks that Akshay Ramanathan, a student of DAV Public School in Aundh, scored in Class XII CBSE exam. Ramanathan stood first in the Mumbai region by scoring 98 per cent marks in the science stream.

Speaking to MiD DAY, the jubilant teenager said, “I am over the moon. I somehow knew that I would score 98 per cent. I scored exactly the same, neither less, nor more,” said Akshay.

High notes: Akshay Ramanathan is also into Carnatic music, and loves to sing

Sharing his mantra of success, Ramanathan said, “I made sure that I attend all the lectures. Besides, the NCERT books helped to a great extent, and I didn’t feel the need of going though any other study material while preparing for the exam. My parents are really happy with the result,” said the youngster, whose parents work with Syndicate Bank, and BSNL.

Ramanathan, who aspires to be an IITian, is now waiting for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Advance) result, which is expected to be out in the second week of June. “My JEE scores will decide if I’ll be able to make it to the IITs. So for now I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” he said.u00a0

Always a bright student – he had scored 96 per cent marks in Class X – Ramanathan is also into Carnatic music. “I love to sing and never miss my riyaz. I love listening to music while solving mathematical equations,” he added.u00a0

Colleges fail to secure 100% results

The overall result of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Range Hills Estate, was 93.25%. “Fifty students from Science stream appeared for the exam, out of whom 48 passed. While in Commerce, 39 appeared and 35 students passed,” said RK Lale, principal of KV Range Hills. Ganeshkhind Nisha Gandhi emerged topper in Science stream by scoring 93.8%, while Shreya Sengupta ruled the roost in Commerce stream by scoring 88.4% marks. DIAT Girinagar School had an overall result of 96.67%, where Reena Gautam topped by scoring 91% marks.
